What is a footprint?
All your daily activities emit greenhouse gases. Your food, transport, home heating, showering, watching TV, buying clothes—your personal lifestyle impacts the development of these gases. In addition, business operations also emit greenhouse gases. Think of employees commuting to the office by car, the electricity and gas a building consumes, transport, production, etc. Greenhouse gas emissions are usually expressed in kilograms of CO2.
What is the difference between a carbon credit and a carbon removal credit?
A carbon credit, also known as a CO2 credit, represents the amount of CO2 offset through climate-friendly activities, such as planting trees or promoting sustainable energy projects. A carbon removal credit represents the removal of a specific amount of CO2 from the atmosphere. Bamboo is well-known for its ability to sequester CO2.
How do I buy carbon credits?
At Bamboo Village, you can purchase certified credits based on your CO2 footprint. You can easily and quickly calculate the emissions of your personal lifestyle or your business via our website.
Who issues the certificates and where does the registration take place?
The carbon certificates are issued by Open Natural Carbon Removal Accounting (ONCRA), an independent initiative of The Climate Cleanup Foundation. The certificate you receive after paying for your carbon credits is registered with ONCRA.
What can you do as a buyer with a certificate?
As a purchaser of a CO2 certificate, you can demonstrate that you have offset a certain amount of CO2 by investing in our climate-friendly bamboo project in Uganda. This is beneficial for your company's image and can be used to communicate your commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation.
How is the amount of CO2 that bamboo can absorb calculated?
We calculate the amount of carbon that bamboo can absorb based on various factors, including the size of the bamboo plants and the duration of the growth period. This calculation was performed under the supervision of ONCRA using scientific data and models that account for factors such as climate and soil conditions. It is important to make an accurate calculation to correctly measure and report the impact of bamboo on reducing CO2 emissions.
What is CO2 offsetting?
CO2 offsetting involves compensating for the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions produced by human activities, such as burning fossil fuels, by investing in projects or activities that remove or prevent CO2 from the atmosphere.
How long does it take for bamboo to reach maturity?
We plant several types of bamboo on our plantation. Depending on the species, it takes about 4 to 5 years for the bamboo to mature.
What happens to the harvested bamboo?
The harvested bamboo is used for various purposes, such as building materials. Sustainable forest management is our priority, ensuring that the bamboo is harvested in a responsible and renewable way. We harvest a maximum of 25% of the bamboo plants each year, so that the plant remains standing and continues to grow.
What does Bamboo Village do?
With Bamboo Village, you can offset the CO2 emissions of your personal lifestyle or your business. We have a certified bamboo plantation in Uganda, about 150 kilometers northwest of the capital, Kampala. The plantation is maintained with the help of local residents. The plantation has a very positive impact at the local level, providing employment and giving employees meaningful work and an income.
How reliable is the Bamboo Village project?
Our bamboo plantation is certified via Open Natural Carbon Removal Accounting (ONCRA), an independent initiative of The Climate Cleanup Foundation. ONCRA is committed to removing CO2 from the atmosphere, also known as Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR). Our bamboo plantation in Uganda is one such natural removal method that harnesses the power of plants. In collaboration with ONCRA, we have calculated how much CO2 our bamboo plantation can remove from the atmosphere. We can issue carbon removal certificates for this verified amount.
