A true powerhouse

Bamboo can be used in various ways as a sustainable material thanks to its strong and renewable properties. The plant grows quickly, is sturdy, and can absorb significant amounts of CO2 from the atmosphere. As a result, bamboo offers great potential for applications such as furniture, flooring, building materials, and sustainable housing solutions.

Beyond its strength as a material, bamboo also plays an important role in carbon sequestration. The plant stores carbon in its stalks, leaves, roots, and soil. In this way, bamboo combines natural growth with long-term value for people, the climate, and the environment.

What happens
with your purchase?

We believe it is important for Bamboo Village to make a local impact. Your contribution supports the development of our bamboo plantations in Uganda. These plantations sequester CO2 while simultaneously creating jobs, fostering local development, and greening the landscape.

Each year, a portion of the bamboo is carefully harvested. We ensure that no more than 25% of the bamboo plants are harvested, allowing the plants to continue growing. A bamboo plant is long-lived: we can harvest from the same plants every year for up to 100 years. The harvested bamboo stalks can be used for long-lasting products such as furniture, flooring, and building materials. The benefit? The CO2 stored by the plant remains trapped in these products, ensuring that the bamboo continues to provide value as a sustainable raw material even after harvest.

Why is our plantation certified?

We are committed to transparency

Our bamboo plantation is certified for removing CO2 from the atmosphere. This ensures that we cannot issue more carbon credits than are actually generated. Do you have any questions about our certification by ONCRA? We would be happy to tell you all about it.
